This is for all of the cloth diapering experts out there. Why some of my diapers go in looking like the first diaper and then come out looking like the 2nd?? I'm wondering if one of my kiddos is off balance? (I'm diapering a 1 year old and a 3 year old during nap time.)

Looks like an appliance issue not something the kids are doing. Maybe something in the dryer or washer.
Good luck figuring it out.

Do you use bleach? If so I suggest making your own soap from borax, washing soda and shaved bar soap. Very gentle on skin and material.
PS glad to see you blogging again!
I wonder if you don't have a sharp piece of metal in your washer tub or a screw or nail stuck in there? does it happen in the washer or the dryer?
I have had that problem as well. My problem came from a high amount of bleach and detergent. Try washing is just hot water a few times to get some of the residue out.
do you soak them in something between washes? looks like it would look if ate up by bleach in a soak.
Thanks for the comments! I think I've figured it out. It seems that if one of my kiddos hasn't had quite enough water, they will get a bit of a rash in their diaper - which I'm guessing is not only burning them, but their diaper as well. I'm going to encourage more fluids but also soak the diapers in baking soda water instead of just water. We'll see if that helps!
I don't know how many people realize that diapers are natural fiber and compost fairly easily. How long do you wait between washings? I see poop stains on the messed up one. If it sat that way for too long ONCE the fibers have been comprimised.
off grid mama - I wash them every 2-3 days . . . the same as I did with my other 3 kids. Along with what I mentioned with my toddler in diapers, I think that my little one also just has crazy diapers at teething time. Lots of dirties and rashes too. I've been washing more frequently during this time, which seems to help - but my friend and I both noticed that the diapers do stain at teething time as well. We found that interesting!
